The Role

Do you want to make a difference in our customers' lives and be part of a highly collaborative, cross-functional team committed to improving the value of Fidelity's Brokerage Technology (FBT) Notification and Messaging Services within Fidelity Institutional's (FI) FBT Platform Engineering team?

We are looking for a highly motivated Squad Leader to lead a highly collaborative, cross-functional squad committed to modernizing legacy systems with innovative solutions to support the next generation in an Agile development environment.

In this role you will blend business, technical and operational expertise with a passion for delivering results. As the Squad Leader you are the end-to-end gatekeeper of the squad mission, strategy, and tactical execution associated with delivering on strategic priorities.

In an Agile structure, you will partner with other Fidelity leaders to influence the broader strategic decisions, roadmaps, and resource requirements, set, and refine the mission, and bring together a team of chapter members to execute on specific product features and ensure respective products or services are available, stable, performant, and supported when required and related cost and maintenance is managed.

You will ensure alignment on the "what", "why" and "when" work is to be performed through ongoing planning and prioritization of a product backlog. You will enable squad members to work iteratively, innovate through testing and experimentation, and learn from failures while celebrating success. You are committed to developing your own expertise and knowledge to ensure you bring the latest thinking to your role.

In addition, your responsibilities include:
  • Defining, refining, and communicating the squads' mission and roadmap to motivate and build team and partner support and alignment.
  • Anticipating, discovering through ongoing interaction with, and prioritizing client/partner needs to serve as their voice and guide execution of the team.
  • Defining, evaluating, and communicating results against acceptance criteria.
  • Inspecting and evaluating progress.
  • Measuring performance against established objectives and KPI's that deliver on agreed upon business, technology, and people results.
  • Collaborating and coordinating with Chapter Leaders and Scrum Masters to build squad capacity and capability and enabling squad member growth, development, and learning.
  • Making informed trade-off decisions to strike the right balance between quality, cost, and timelines.
  • Tightly coordinating with other Squads within Product Area to determine strategic priorities that may require your squad engagement and support.
  • Leading and delivering on Product Area objectives


The Expertise and Skills You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of relevant product/software development experience
  • Financial services experience preferred.
  • Brokerage technology knowledge a plus
  • Proven ability to engage senior business leaders, architects, Product Area leaders and identify efficiencies in approaches that help meet firm objectives.
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining dynamic products and solutions.
  • Jira and Jira Align experience preferred.
  • Data-focused approach to understanding customer needs, translate strategic objectives into action, and prioritize to improve value delivered.
  • Grasp sophisticated product features and break them into clear and concise stories with well-defined business value and acceptance criteria and optimally communicate these!
  • Strong focus on execution and identify, communicate, and remove impediments to progress.
  • Capable of leading, influencing, and motivating colleagues without formal authority, and have a track record of building hard-working teams.
  • Continuously improve and encourage an Agile way of working.
  • Establish and maintain unquestioning relationships as you work collaboratively across Fidelity to deliver business outcomes and seek out the expertise of colleagues to advise on your approach.

The Team

You work in partnership with the Product Area Leader, other Squad Leaders as well as the Scrum Master and Chapter Leaders aligned to your squad. By demonstrating and promoting Fidelity and Agile leadership behaviors, you sustain and evolve our innovative Agile culture. Together with your Squad, you will be rebuilding FBT Messaging and Notification capabilities to drive progress towards cloud migration, technology stack modernization and modern API consumption! You regularly influence and partner with other squads to identify the most valuable modernization opportunities, so your deliverables provide both modernization and business outcomes.
