The Director, Software Engineering is responsible for delivering large scale software initiatives for Assurant's Global Automotive services. They must have an extensive technical background, as well as excellent communication, problem solving, influencing, and mentoring skills, which enable them to act as a "servant leader". They will be leading an Agile Release Train (ART) and navigating the complexity of delivering large solutions effectively via multiple teams.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?
  • Lead application development teams for SaaS based cloud applications which involve technologies like Salesforce, MuleSoft, Oracle, Informatica, Azure, etc.
  • Set direction for and assign responsibilities to technical and non-technical individuals on the ART and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure IT is adequately resourced to deliver on commitments
  • Proactively partner with system architects, solution architects and consultants during solution design.
  • Resolve disagreements regarding technical requirements and identify interdependencies across teams. Remain abreast of developments in the cloud application development field.
  • End-responsibility for service quality and security for capability/solution.
  • Manage technical vendors, where appropriate.
  • Proactively partner with product managers, product owners, system architects, solution architects and consultants to ensure readiness for the next program increment (PI).
  • Optimize the flow of value for business and steer the ART to meet PI commitments.
  • Facilitate PI Planning, ART Sync, Inspect and Adapt events, as well as Risk Management and ART Work Intake processes.
  • Manage multiple teams / ART with a total of 30+ developers, testers, scrum masters, technical product owners and architects.
  • Travel up to 10%.


What are the requirements needed for this position?
  • 10 years of technology experience including 5+ years' experience managing Information Technology teams.
  • 5+ years of custom software development experience with at least some of the following in a team leadership capacity: Salesforce, Informatica, MuleSoft, Azure, etc. with Java/J2EE, .Net background.
  • 5+ years of experience multi-tasking and managing multiple initiatives and customer demands simultaneously.
  • 4+ years working in an Agile development environment (SAFE designation is a plus).
  • 5+ years of experience monitoring staff performance results and addressing problem behaviors to achieve improvement.
  • Experience with managing complex IT organizations, environments and initiatives.
  • Must have experience with cloud-based solutions:
  • Experience working with business users to understand their needs and requested features and ensure they are ready for development and delivery.
  • Knowledge of continuous delivery practices, DevOps, CE/CI/ CD, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills: ability to translate technical concepts into non-technical terms.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related degree

Pay Range:
$116,900.00 - $195,300.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
