Collins Aerospace is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead a team of 15-20 Mechanical Engineers whose charter is to develop mechanical designs for our Integrated Mission Systems division. This team develops electro-mechanical assemblies and integrates system-level modifications on airborne platforms. Our teams are responsible for mechanical design solutions for multiple, interconnected equipment which are critical components of the survivable, endurable, reliable airborne command, control and communications platforms required by our customers. This is an ONSITE position located in Richardson, TX. This position may be eligible for relocation and sign on bonus.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Possess Mechanical Engineering skills, critical and innovative thinking, strategic planning, and an ability to build and motivate a team
  • Provide technical leadership and accountability for team and project performance
  • Identify, recruit, retain, and develop engineering talent across the spectrum of entry-level to very experienced Mechanical engineers
  • Communicate well with a wide variety of individuals including Engineering, Program Management, internal leadership, and customers
  • Demonstrate a passion for coaching and mentoring
  • Relies on past, proven, technical expertise to drive team solutions for: mechanical architectures, design, analysis (structural, thermal, and environmental), and requirement development for systems of varying complexity
  • Conduct project leadership over the entire life cycle including bids, project management, design, requirements capture, integration, verification, and certification
  • Participate as a management focal, responsible for hiring plans and staffing support of several programs supported in the business unit
  • Build and leverage networks within the department and across Raytheon Technologies
  • Strives to spend 50% of week performing technical tasks and project coaching. Remaining time spent on people management, staffing, and career development

Basic Qualifications:
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Candidate must hold or be capable of obtaining a U.S. DoD Security Clearance.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
  • Previous hands-on experience with platform design and aircraft systems modifications (structural, cooling, electrical, etc.), including the applicability of AS50881.
  • Familiar with Mechanical Computer Aided Design (CAD) best practices (SolidWorks, Siemens NX)


Preference will be given to candidates that possess the following:
  • Possess an active U.S. DoD Secret Clearance or higher. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/re-instatement and must meet eligibility requirements.
  • Prior management experience of a technical team and proven experience working in a cross functional environment interfacing with Systems, Electrical, Test, and Software Engineering.
  • Practical experience in all phases of Mechanical Engineering product development; pursuit, design, new product introduction (NPI), qualification, integration, and production support
  • Experience with aircraft airworthiness certification (MIL-HDBK-516C)
  • Previous Hands-on experience in Electronics Packaging Mechanical Design, qualification, including knowledge of MIL-STD-810 and RTCA DO-160.
  • Direct experience in military development bid and proposal efforts
  • Direct experience in Cost Account Management (CAM) and Earn Value Management Systems (EVMS)
  • Experience/knowledge with development methods such as Agile
  • Familiar with thermal and structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) best practices (ANSYS)

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
