Job Description

Job Title: Senior Quality Engineer / Metrologist

Position Responsibilities

This position will lead and perform all dimensional analysis investigations at Aisin's North American central QA Center located in Seymour, Indiana. Team member will work together with our materials analysis group to perform comprehensive failure analysis investigation to support Aisin's North American manufacturing processes. These analysis requests may come from any source (suppliers, Aisin manufacturing plants, customers, etc.) and must be accompanied by a professional analysis report.

  • Perform dimensional measurement and analyze resulting data to support failure analysis investigations on submitted samples and sub-assemblies in a timely fashion.
    • Provide detailed analysis and conclusions documented in a standard AISIN format report.
    • Analysis includes determining proper investigation sequence, performing hands-on sample preparation, teardown, and testing as required.
    • Equipment includes Optical 3D and scanning point contact CMMs, measurement microscopes, surface and contour tracer, various hand gauges, and other test equipment.
  • Perform internal calibration and arrange external calibration of all QA Center test equipment. Maintain records to meet IATF16949 requirements.
  • Assist in sourcing equipment and support material as necessary for effective and efficient operation of the NA QA Center dimensional laboratory.


Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Provide measurement skills training, development, and guidance to engineers from Aisin North American manufacturing facilities. Plan, schedule, and deliver training sessions, as needed/requested, by AWA management or NAP locations.
  • Assist in the development of operational (Quality) manuals and training material for identified key quality methods and concepts.
  • Audit Aisin North American manufacturing facilities' Measurement Management Systems
  • Assist Aisin North American manufacturing plant locations, as needed, with quality improvement activity.
  • Support activities shown in association with the Aisin North American Quality Assurance annual job plan as well as the Aisin NA long term business plan.


Required Skills and Abilities

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Strong proficiency in print reading, Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD T), and general measurement principles is essential
  • Experience performing measurement analysis and investigations, including CMM programming experience
  • Strong Failure Analysis / Troubleshooting skills
  • Desire to do hands-on lab work
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is essential
  • Technical report writing and effective communication skills are essential
  • Ability to coordinate and negotiate with customer and AISIN facilities


Beneficial Skills and Experience

  • Experience performing calibration on measurement gauges preferred.
  • Experience with MSA preferred
  • Gauge design experience preferred
  • Knowledge of production processes such as stamping, machining, and assembly
  • Knowledge of Seven Basic QC Tools


Education/Training/Certifications

  • AA/AAS or proof of aptitude through documented training and professional certifications relevant to job responsibilities.
