This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Civil Engineer for our Boston, MA office. The following location will also be considered: Worcester, MA. Be involved in projects with our Transportation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and develops solutions to address their challenges.

Provides technical assistance and guidance for infrastructure construction and rehabilitation projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include assisting with the research, concept development, planning, and design, for road, track, tunnels, bridge, stormwater facilities, utilities, and/or site improvement projects. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on federal, state, regional, and local transportation improvement and development projects.
  • Design roadway/highway projects from inception to completion, including horizontal geometry, cross sections, profiles, and grading for a wide range of project types from contextual Complete Streets improvements to interstate highway design development. Coordinate with other disciplines throughout the design development process.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Apply high-level civil engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
  • Develop construction staging alternatives and temporary traffic control plans to minimize construction-related impacts on our communities while also meeting project goals related to safety, cost, and schedule.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 5+years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior civil design experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, and design, including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.
  • Working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members
  • Proficient with technical writing, and discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InRoads, or OpenRoads)
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to occasionally work modified schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
