About the Opportunity

Dayforce is looking for a self-starting, highly motivated User Research Manager to help us evolve our research practice, develop and mentor our research team and scale our Design organization.

Design at Dayforce is transforming from a legacy approach to "enterprise software" to a contemporary, user- and human-centered practice, recognizing that even HR and workforce management tools should look and work more like consumer software. Crucial to this transformation is a leading user research practice and user research manager that supports the evolution of our product experiences, ensuring that users remain at the heart of all decisions.

In addition to overseeing research programs to evolve the Dayforce experience, a user research manager looks after the people on their team through mentorship, professional development, and career-building. Managers are also on the front-line of recruiting, hiring and bringing in new skills to mature our mixed method research practice that supports across the software development life cycle and design process.

This role is for people with some people management experience, or who have extensively led a portfolio of research across multiple workstreams. We're looking for a leader with a strong diplomatic bent who can use their relationship skills to bring non-researchers into the work, upholding our values and quality standards in a stakeholder-rich environment.
Managers will have broad and deep organizational support to make these needed changes. Dayforce has new senior leadership throughout product development that are hungry for smart user-centered practices, active product discovery, and establishing a threshold for quality. This role has advocates in high places.

What you'll get to do
  • All people management for a team of 5-7 researchers, including 1:1s, professional development, performance reviews, etc.
  • Recruit and hire UX researchers and support the recruitment and hiring of other design professionals of other disciplines.
  • Develop and/or oversee the development of research programs in multiple product areas that support human-centered design across the double diamond, from front-end discovery to measurement
  • Build relationships with cross-functional partners outside of Design to create a deeper understanding of human-centered design in the broader organization and help pave the way for new ways of working for cross-functional teams
  • Uphold quality standards in the face of myriad pressures such as timelines, feedback, and workloads.
  • Contribute thought leadership to help scale and mature our user research practice and our Design organization in a way that prioritizes best practices, and the needs of the organization.
  • Partner with cross-functional peers in product management, engineering, data, and others to plan optimal approaches to creating quality user experiences
  • Support prioritization and planning at multiple levels to create focus on the most impactful work

Skills and Experience we Value
  • Either prior experience with managing user researchers or extensive experience as a Team Lead, directing a program or portfolio of research
  • Passionate advocate of putting our users at the heart of the work
  • Success at bringing a range of people into the research and design process, including cross-functional partners (product managers, designers, developers, marketers)
  • Experience guiding the design of complicated products (multiple user types, feature complexity) that has shipped and made clear positive impact on its users
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills, including storytelling
  • Mixed method research expertise, able to guide other researchers in a variety of different methods across the design process
  • Orderly and organized, keeping themselves and their teams on task and on time
  • Comfortable with structuring and planning research work in cross-functional contexts
