Would you like to contribute to achieving the State of California's ambitious clean energy and climate goals? The CPUC's Grid Planning, Energy Storage and Non-Wires Alternatives team is working to plan strategies to transform and modernize the distribution grid to achieve California's greenhouse gas reduction goals while maintaining safe and reliable service and increasing the role of distributed energy resources (DERs) to provide ratepayer benefit. The section provides technical expertise and implementation oversight of policies and programs related to distribution resource planning, procurement and policy for energy storage, smart grid, and grid modernization. This position plays a leadership role in developing forward looking distribution planning and energy storage policy and procurement to enable California's transition to a clean energy future based on high electrification and optimal grid integration of DER and storage resources.

The section is in search of creative, dynamic, independent and critical thinking team members with a "growth mindset" who enjoy challenges, strive to learn, and consistently see potential to develop new skills. A successful candidate will lead in implementing critical statewide programs in energy storage policy and procurement, distribution grid planning and targeted DER procurement. This section values superior quantitative analytic abilities, strong communication skills and seeks individuals that perform well in collaborative team environments. If clean energy or environmental sustainability is your passion, we encourage you to apply for our positions.

Under general direction of the Project and Program Supervisor, the Energy Storage & Grid Planning Analyst will advise and assist high-level decision-makers such as Commissioners, Judges, and Energy Division management. The analyst may act as a team leader and project coordinator on energy storage policy, procurement, and markets and support related work in distribution resource planning and DER procurement projects. The analyst may conduct original research in their areas of subject matter expertise and produce staff proposals. The analyst will make policy recommendations based on independent analysis of regulatory, market, policy and technical issues. The analyst will develop analysis and recommendations regarding the CPUC's policy-setting rule makings via a wide range of work products, review and provide feedback on proposed legislative bills, manage technical contractors, and/or oversee implementation of programs that result from these CPUC and legislative processes. The analyst will work as part of a team in support of project and policy objectives while also having some areas of lead responsibility.

The analyst will perform other work as necessary, such as writing and presenting reports, leading and facilitating workshops and technical working groups, coordinating with other California organizations and agencies (e.g., the California Energy Commission, the California Air Resources Board, California Independent System Operator), and responding to outside inquiries. The analyst will present publicly on their area of expertise.
